What is a 2013-P Fort McHenry Quarter worth?

In circulated condition it's worth face value. Only uncirculated coins with full original luster, or a recognized variety, carry a premium.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

For market prices, check recent sold results for certified coins in the same grade.

Quick answers

What to check on your 2013-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2013-D (151 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2013-S Fort McHenry Quarter Proof (911,451 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

With 120 million made, the 2013-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2013-P Fort McHenry

Philadelphia made 120,000,000 of the Fort McHenry coin. Among the 5 designs of 2013 it was the middle Philadelphia run, between Perry's Victory (108 million) and Great Basin (122 million).

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (151 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it sits 21st of 56 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Chaco Culture at 22 million.

How to recognize it

The Fort McHenry design

Maryland's Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is honored by the fourth 2013 release. The reverse shows fireworks bursting over the fort during a Defenders Day celebration, an annual event at the site, recalling the "rocket's red glare." The fort's defense against British bombardment in September 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that became "The Star-Spangled Banner." Joseph Menna both designed and sculpted the reverse.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
