What is a 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter worth?
A worn 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error

Quick answers
- Is the 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter rare?
- Not in absolute terms: 63 million were made. It is one of the smaller runs in the series, though, so uncirculated examples are worth a little more than most dates.
- Is the 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2025 American Women Quarter?
- On the obverse (P, D or S). On this coin the mark is D, for Denver.
- How many 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter coins were made?
- 63,000,000.
What to check on your 2025-D
- Make sure the mint mark really is a D. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2025-P (56 million made).
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.
With 63 million made, the 2025-D still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2025-D Dr. Vera Rubin
Denver made 63,000,000 of the Dr. Vera Rubin quarter. Among the 5 designs of 2025 it was the middle Denver run, between Stacey Milbern (59 million) and Juliette Gordon Low (130 million).
Philadelphia struck a similar number of the same design (56 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across the whole program it's one of the Denver designs made in the smallest numbers, 3rd from the bottom of 20.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2025
The Treasury announced the end of penny production for circulation and the last circulating cents were struck in Philadelphia in November 2025. It was also the final year of the American Women quarters.
How to recognize it
The Dr. Vera Rubin design
Dr. Vera Rubin (1928 to 2016) was an astronomer whose studies of how galaxies rotate provided key evidence for dark matter. Working with Kent Ford at the Carnegie Institution in the 1970s, she found that stars in the outer parts of spiral galaxies orbit about as fast as those nearer the center. That pattern implied large amounts of unseen mass. She received the National Medal of Science in 1993. The reverse shows her profile gazing upward among a spiral galaxy and other celestial bodies, above the inscription DARK MATTER.
The American Women Quarter design
The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
