What is a 2020-D George H. W. Bush Presidential Dollar worth?
It's scarcer than a typical date, so even circulated examples sell above face. The best uncirculated coins are where the money is.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error
- Certification by PCGS or NGC, which buyers expect for scarce dates

Quick answers
- Is the 2020-D George H. W. Bush Presidential Dollar rare?
- Somewhat. 1,502,425 were made, fewer than most dates, so collectors treat it as a semi-key.
- Is the 2020-D George H. W. Bush Presidential Dollar silver?
- No. It's manganese brass (88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel). Circulating silver dollars ended with the 1935 Peace dollar. Some Eisenhower dollars with an S mint mark were made in 40% silver for collectors, but circulation Ike dollars are copper-nickel clad.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2020 Presidential Dollar?
- On the edge, incused along with the date and mottos. On this coin the mark is D, for Denver.
- How many 2020-D George H. W. Bush Presidential Dollar coins were made?
- 1,502,425.
What to check on your 2020-D
- Make sure the mint mark really is a D. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2020-P (1.2 million made).
- Judge the grade under good light. Check the high points of each portrait and the edge lettering, which should be complete and evenly spaced.
The story of the 2020-D George H. W. Bush
Denver made 1,502,425 of the George H. W. Bush presidential dollar.
Philadelphia struck a similar number of the same design (1.2 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across every Denver coin in the program, no design had a smaller run.
One more president (2017 to 2020)
No Presidential dollars were made from 2017 to 2019. The law only allowed a president to appear after his death, so a coin for George H. W. Bush was added in 2020, after he died in 2018.
It was struck for collectors only, in small numbers like the other late coins and it closes the series. Its reverse keeps the Statue of Liberty used on every coin in the program.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2020
West Point again struck quarters with a W mint mark for circulation, this time on all five 2020 designs.
How to recognize it
The George H. W. Bush design
George H. W. Bush was the 41st president, serving from 1989 to 1993 after eight years as vice president under Ronald Reagan. As a Navy pilot in World War II he was shot down over the Pacific in 1944. His presidency saw the end of the Cold War, German reunification and the Gulf War of 1991. He signed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. His coin was issued in 2020, four years after the Reagan coin.
The Presidential Dollar design
The obverse shows a president with his name and the order and years of his time in office. The reverse shows the Statue of Liberty with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1. The date, mint mark and E PLURIBUS UNUM are lettered on the edge, along with IN GOD WE TRUST on coins struck before 2009, so check the edge for the mint mark.
