What is a 2006-S Nebraska Quarter Proof worth?

Age alone gives this coin a small premium, even worn. Sharp details and original surfaces push it higher.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Grade and, for proofs, strong cameo contrast
  • A die variety or minting error

For market prices, check recent sold results for certified coins in the same grade.

What to check on your 2006-S

  • Make sure the mint mark really is an S. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2006-D (276 million made).
  • Judge the grade under good light. State quarters are judged mainly on luster and contact marks. Look for die varieties and errors, which carry the real premiums in this series.

Proofs from 2006 come with and without frosted devices. Coins with strong contrast are labeled Cameo or Deep Cameo and are worth more.

The story of the 2006-S Nebraska

Elsewhere in US coinage in 2006

The Jefferson nickel received a new forward-facing portrait of Jefferson and the original Monticello reverse returned.

How to recognize it

The Nebraska design

Chimney Rock towers over an ox-drawn covered wagon carrying a pioneer family, with the sun in the background and the words CHIMNEY ROCK. The rock spire was a famous landmark for travelers on the Oregon, California and Mormon trails as they crossed the plains. Thousands of emigrants mentioned it in their diaries as a sign of progress on the journey west. Nebraska became the thirty-seventh state in 1867. Its quarter was the second release of 2006.

The 50 State Quarter design

To make room for each state design, the obverse was rearranged: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR all moved to the side with Washington's portrait. The reverse shows the state's design with its name, the year it joined the Union or ratified the Constitution, the year of issue and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The mint mark is to the right of Washington's ponytail.
