What is a 2010-P Yellowstone Quarter worth?

A worn 2010-P Yellowstone is a spender: face value. A bright uncirculated one, or one with a known error, is worth setting aside.

What would make yours worth more:

  • Uncirculated condition with full original luster
  • A die variety or minting error

Quick answers

Is the 2010-P Yellowstone Quarter rare?
No. 34 million were made, a typical run for the series. Condition and varieties decide its value, not the date.
Is the 2010-P Yellowstone Quarter silver?
No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
Where is the mint mark on a 2010 America the Beautiful Quarter?
On the obverse, to the right of Washington's ribbon. "W" quarters were struck in 2019 and 2020 and released into circulation in small numbers. On this coin the mark is P, for Philadelphia.
How many 2010-P Yellowstone Quarter coins were made?
33,600,000.

What to check on your 2010-P

  • Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2010-D (35 million made).
  • Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2010-S Yellowstone Quarter Proof (1,402,756 made) is the one to compare with.
  • A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
  • Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.

With 34 million made, the 2010-P still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.

The story of the 2010-P Yellowstone

Philadelphia made 33,600,000 of the Yellowstone coin. That was the smallest Philadelphia run of the 5 designs issued in 2010, so it's the one from that year you're least likely to find in change.

Denver struck a similar number of the same design (35 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.

Across the whole program it sits 8th of 56 Philadelphia designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Chaco Culture at 22 million.

Elsewhere in US coinage in 2010

The Union Shield reverse replaced the Lincoln Memorial on the cent. The America the Beautiful quarters began, honoring a national park or site in every state and territory.

How to recognize it

The Yellowstone design

The second 2010 quarter honors Yellowstone National Park, representing Wyoming. Its reverse places an American bison in the foreground with Old Faithful geyser erupting behind it. Established in 1872, Yellowstone was the first national park in the United States. It protects the largest concentration of geysers in the world along with vast herds of bison and elk. Don Everhart both designed and sculpted the reverse.

The America the Beautiful Quarter design

Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
