What to check on your 2018-P
- Make sure the mint mark really is a P. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2018-P (138 million made).
- Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.
The 5 ounce America the Beautiful coins are 3 inches (76.2 mm) across and contain five troy ounces of .999 fine silver, with the same designs as the quarters. The bullion version, sold through authorized dealers, has no mint mark; the burnished version made for collectors carries a P mint mark and a satin finish. The edge is lettered with the fineness and weight instead of being reeded.

How to recognize it
The Cumberland Island design
Georgia's Cumberland Island National Seashore is the fourth design of 2018, showing a snowy egret perched on a branch at the edge of a salt marsh, ready for flight. Cumberland is the largest of Georgia's barrier islands. The national seashore, established in 1972, protects its beaches, dunes, marshes and maritime forest, along with historic sites such as the Dungeness ruins. Donna Weaver designed the reverse, which Don Everhart sculpted.
The America the Beautiful Quarter design
Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
