What is a 2019-W San Antonio Missions Quarter worth?
Collectors pay a real premium for this date, worn or not, because far fewer were made than usual. Uncirculated pieces go much higher.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error
- Certification by PCGS or NGC, which buyers expect for scarce dates

Quick answers
- Is the 2019-W San Antonio Missions Quarter rare?
- Somewhat. 2,000,000 were made, fewer than most dates, so collectors treat it as a semi-key.
- Is the 2019-W San Antonio Missions Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2019 America the Beautiful Quarter?
- On the obverse, to the right of Washington's ribbon. "W" quarters were struck in 2019 and 2020 and released into circulation in small numbers. On this coin the mark is W, for West Point.
- How many 2019-W San Antonio Missions Quarter coins were made?
- 2,000,000.
What to check on your 2019-W
- Make sure the mint mark really is a W. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2019-D (129 million made).
- Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2019-S San Antonio Missions Quarter Proof (710,853 made) is the one to compare with.
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.
The story of the 2019-W San Antonio Missions
West Point made 2,000,000 of the San Antonio Missions coin. Among the 5 designs of 2019 it was the second largest West Point run, between War In The Pacific (2 million) and River Of No Return (2 million).
Philadelphia struck more of the same design, 143 million, so the 2019-W is the scarcer of the pair by about 99 percent.
Across the whole program it's one of the West Point designs made in the smallest numbers, 4th from the bottom of 10.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2019
The West Point Mint struck quarters with a "W" mint mark for the first time and released them into circulation to encourage people to search their change.
How to recognize it
The San Antonio Missions design
Texas's quarter, fourth in 2019, borrows its layout from the Spanish colonial real coin, placing symbols of mission life in the quadrants of a cross. Wheat stands for farming, arches with a bell for community, a lion for Spanish cultural heritage and a wavy emblem of the San Antonio River for irrigation. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park preserves four eighteenth-century Spanish missions and is part of a World Heritage Site. Chris Costello designed the reverse, which Joseph Menna sculpted.
The America the Beautiful Quarter design
Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
