What is a 2023-S Eleanor Roosevelt Quarter Proof worth?
Age alone gives this coin a small premium, even worn. Sharp details and original surfaces push it higher.
What would make yours worth more:
- Grade and, for proofs, strong cameo contrast
- A die variety or minting error

What to check on your 2023-S
- Make sure the mint mark really is an S. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2023-D (272 million made).
- Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.
Proofs from 2023 come with and without frosted devices. Coins with strong contrast are labeled Cameo or Deep Cameo and are worth more.
How to recognize it
The Eleanor Roosevelt design
Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 to 1962) served as First Lady from 1933 to 1945 and used the role to champion civil rights, working people and the poor. After World War II she became a delegate to the United Nations and chaired its Commission on Human Rights. Under her leadership the commission drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in December 1948. The reverse shows her beside the scales of justice set against a globe, inscribed UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Don Everhart designed it and Craig A. Campbell sculpted it.
The American Women Quarter design
The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
