What is a 2024-D Celia Cruz Quarter worth?
Worn examples are worth face value and can be spent. Keep it only if it looks uncirculated or shows a known variety.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error

Quick answers
- Is the 2024-D Celia Cruz Quarter rare?
- No. 156 million were made, a typical run for the series. Condition and varieties decide its value, not the date.
- Is the 2024-D Celia Cruz Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2024 American Women Quarter?
- On the obverse (P, D or S). On this coin the mark is D, for Denver.
- How many 2024-D Celia Cruz Quarter coins were made?
- 156,200,000.
What to check on your 2024-D
- Make sure the mint mark really is a D. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2024-P (150 million made).
- Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2024-S Celia Cruz Quarter Proof (557,160 made) is the one to compare with.
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Modern quarters are graded on luster, strike and marks. Proofs are judged on cameo contrast.
With 156 million made, the 2024-D still turns up in everyday change. Keep yours only if it looks uncirculated or shows a variety; otherwise it's worth face value.
The story of the 2024-D Celia Cruz
Denver made 156,200,000 of the Celia Cruz quarter. That was the smallest Denver run of the 5 designs issued in 2024, so it's the one from that year you're least likely to find in change.
Philadelphia struck a similar number of the same design (150 million), so neither mint's version is much harder to find.
Across the whole program it sits 6th of 20 Denver designs by mintage, where the scarcest is Althea Gibson at 32 million.
How to recognize it
The Celia Cruz design
Celia Cruz (1925 to 2003), born in Havana, became known as the Queen of Salsa. She rose to fame in the 1950s as lead singer of La Sonora Matancera, then left Cuba in 1960 and built her career in the United States. Recording with the Fania All-Stars among others, she won several Grammy awards along with the National Medal of Arts in 1994. The reverse shows her smiling while performing in a rumba-style dress, beside her catchphrase AZÚCAR, Spanish for sugar. Phebe Hemphill designed and sculpted it.
The American Women Quarter design
The obverse shows a new portrait of George Washington by Laura Gardin Fraser, originally submitted in the 1931 design competition. Each reverse honors a woman who shaped American history, with her name and the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and QUARTER DOLLAR. Five honorees were issued each year from 2022 to 2025.
