What is a 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter worth?
Collectors pay a real premium for this date, worn or not, because far fewer were made than usual. Uncirculated pieces go much higher.
What would make yours worth more:
- Uncirculated condition with full original luster
- A die variety or minting error
- Certification by PCGS or NGC, which buyers expect for scarce dates

Quick answers
- Is the 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter rare?
- Somewhat. 2,000,000 were made, fewer than most dates, so collectors treat it as a semi-key.
- Is the 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter silver?
- No. It's copper core clad in 75% copper / 25% nickel. Quarters dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver.
- Where is the mint mark on a 2020 America the Beautiful Quarter?
- On the obverse, to the right of Washington's ribbon. "W" quarters were struck in 2019 and 2020 and released into circulation in small numbers. On this coin the mark is W, for West Point.
- How many 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter coins were made?
- 2,000,000.
What to check on your 2020-W
- Make sure the mint mark really is a W. A worn or filled mark can be misread. It's what separates your coin from the 2020-P (305 million made).
- Proof or circulation strike? A proof has mirror-like fields and frosted design details and was sold to collectors, not released in change. The 2020-S Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Quarter Proof (528,900 made) is the one to compare with.
- A face that's fully copper colored could be a missing clad layer error. Patchy discoloration is usually damage.
- Judge the grade under good light. Look for luster and freedom from bag marks. "W" quarters in circulation are worth a premium even in average condition.
The story of the 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller
West Point made 2,000,000 of the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller coin. Among the 5 designs of 2020 it was the second largest West Point run, between Salt River Bay (2 million) and Tallgrass Prairie (2 million).
Denver struck more of the same design, 346 million, so the 2020-W is the scarcer of the pair by about 99 percent.
Across the whole program it's one of the most plentiful West Point designs.
Elsewhere in US coinage in 2020
West Point again struck quarters with a W mint mark for circulation, this time on all five 2020 designs.
How to recognize it
The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller design
Vermont's Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, the fourth design of 2020, shows a young girl finishing the planting of a Norway spruce seedling near an established tree. The park in Woodstock tells the story of conservation and land stewardship. It is named for George Perkins Marsh, author of Man and Nature; Frederick Billings, who reforested the estate; and Laurance and Mary Rockefeller, who gave it to the nation. Donna Weaver designed the reverse, which Michael Gaudioso sculpted.
The America the Beautiful Quarter design
Each reverse shows a national park or other national site, one for every state, the District of Columbia and five territories, with the site's name, its state and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Five designs were issued each year from 2010 to 2020, followed by a final design for the Tuskegee Airmen in 2021. The obverse uses a restored, more detailed version of Flanagan's original Washington portrait.
